Marcia and Scott say “I do” and celebrate at SFU!

Vancouver Wedding featuring a reception at Simon Fraser University

by a Victoria BC wedding phtographer 🙂

I am so excited to bring you this wedding featuring two amazing people!  I have known Scott for a long time – from back in my science days.  Scott left the island for Vancouver a few years ago, and I met Marcia after he had fallen head over heels for her.  He has some good taste!  Marcia is stunning, and such an amazing and sweet person.  I want to thank them so much for taking me, a Victoria wedding photographer, to Vancouver to photograph this beautiful celebration.

The day started with the bride getting ready at home with her mom and dad helping her into her dress.  This family was so fun!

I always love the moment they see each other for the first time.  I also loved all of the stained glass in this church. church wedding photography vancouver bc victoria island stained glass

We had time for a few photos in the church.   victoria wedding photographer church stained glass

This next one is one of my favourite exit photos I have ever taken.  I love the joy!  By the way, that window above them is the same one from the previous photo 😉 wedding photographers in victoria bc vancouver island best top photography

This seems like a nice way to travel!  Yes Scott, in his tails, carried his bride to the beach for some romantic portraits.

The light was amazing, and we had some good times and good laughs for sure!  Don’t worry people, I am fun! vancouver victoria bc beach wedding photographer photography

And here is a set that appeals to the inner nerd in me.  Marcia and Scott met at work in a lab, and wanted to get some photos from that location.  Oh man, not only was this totally unique for me, it was also so much “them”.  I love it when people work in personal things (locations, details, etc) into their wedding day.  Also, bonus points to anyone who can name the glassware they are holding in their hands!!

Their reception was at the Diamond Alumni Centre at Simon Fraser University.  It was a very lovely venue for a reception with great views.

The speeches were so great.  The maid of honour gave a touching speech and the best man wrote a song for the couple in lieu of a speech.  It was very special.

Instead of the usual tinkling of the glass, they had a game where they would imitate any kiss demonstrated by their guests.  As you can see, there were some hilarious moments!

Another great moment.  A blindolded Scott had to guess who his bride was based on a kiss on the cheek.  Well, when all was said and done, he chose…. his best man!  It could not have been more perfect!

It was a great night for the kids – one caught the bouquet and another the garter!  It was super cute.

And We ill end with the first dance.  It was beautiful.  Very well practiced, with some amazing moves.  Check it out! diamond alumni centre vancouver burnaby victoria wedding photographer first dance twinkly lights simon fraser university

On a personal note, after I had edited this wedding I was watching Supernatural on Netflix (no judging) and I saw Marcia on there!  Her talents never end!

Now let’s hear from the bride and groom. 🙂

1) Tell me how you first met.

We met on my first day at work.  It was love at first sight for Scott.  I couldn’t really see his face since he was wearing a mask as part of his PPE.

2) Tell me about the proposal.

I thought we were going out for a typical Valentine’s Day dinner.  Scott had made reservations for a dinner cruise and it was really nice because we got to sit by the window seat.  Just before dinner was announced, the hostess mentioned that they had a prize for the 100th guest who boarded the boat and she called my name!  I was super excited!  I went up to pick up my prize which was a heart-shaped glass.  When I read it out loud, only then did I realize it was a proposal.  On the heart, it was engraved “Marcia, will you marry me?”  I saw Scott coming up and he got down on one knee and opened the ring box.  It was very romantic… and in front of many people!  But I could only see Scott at that point.  I kept admiring the ring the entire night.

3) Tell me the one thing you love most about each other.

We love how we both complement each other in so many ways.  Also, since we have similar (and yet different) backgrounds, we can talk about science, art, music, and other topics and never get tired of each other.

4) Besides getting married –‐ what was your favourite thing about your wedding day?

Scott: Seeing Marcia walk down the aisle.

Marcia: Seeing Scott with a big smile waiting for me as I walked down the aisle.

5) What’s one thing you wish you would have known earlier in regards to planning?

Wedding planning was so smooth that I wouldn’t change a thing!
