Sandra and Shawn’s wedding | by a Nova Scotia Photographer

Sandra and Shawn had such an amazing wedding day!  I mean, it has to count as amazing when otters are the first guests to show up to the wedding, right?  Their day was also unique in that they had a morning ceremony and a lunch time reception.  They also rented a large house on the water for a party later on that night!  So it really was an all day celebration!

Now a little Q&A with the bride! 😀

Tell me how you first met?

We meet initially in May of 2011 during a wine tour in the Okanagan. Shawn was driving the bus I chartered for my wine tour. We had such a great trip with Shawn that the next year to Vancouver Island I specifically asked the bus company to put Shawn on the job. And that he did…not only did he take care of all the wineos on the bus but he took a particular interest in taking care of me. And as they say the rest is history. We started dating just after the wine tour and our relationship flowed naturally after that. He already knew most of my family and friends from being on the wine tour so there were no awkward meet the family moments.

When did you know he was the one?

I knew Shawn was the one for me very shortly after dating. We went on a camping trip in the interior of BC and he taught me how to fly fish. We had so much fun together and just really enjoyed the same things. Once again Shawn showed me his incredible caring personality and we really solidified our relationship on that trip. It’s true what they say, you sometimes look for someone like your Dad. Shawn had many qualities that I loved.

Tell me about the proposal?

Our proposal was somewhat planned as we had used my grandmothers diamonds to designed our own ring. When we picked up the ring, Shawn took me to my Dad’s grave site and asked for his permission. It was pretty emotionally proposal to say the least. We are pretty sure my Dad approved as the ground didn’t shake and the clouds didn’t open up.

Tell me the one thing you love most about each other?

Our shared interests, patience and our ability to laugh as well as our support for each other.

Besides getting married – what was your favourite thing about your wedding day?

Our favorite thing bedsides getting married, was turning our wedding into a weekend getaway with all our family and friends. We chartered a bus and brought all our guests over from the mainland to enjoy a fabulous island weekend with amazing food and wine.

What inspired your décor or theme?

We kept our passion for boating when developing our theme for our wedding. Such as location, “by the sea” at the Sooke Harbour House. “Tying the knot” on our invitations and an “anchor” on our wedding cake.

Thank you Sandra & Shawn!
