I am excited to start updating regularly to get caught up on all the awesome weddings and families and couple’s shoots i have been doing. Life has been busier than ever and I am loving every minute of it!

So to start – last time I blogged it was a family session in October. So fun! Shortly after this, I headed off to Indianapolis for an incredible workshop with my favourite photographers in the world – Bobbi + Mike. It was awesome, I was so nervous! But they could not have been better people and the workshop was so inspiring. The photographers there were touched on a deep level and changed forever. I can’t say eough good stuff about it.

This brings us to Caitlin and Dustin. This was my first session (albeit a mini session) after the workshop, and in these photos I can see the difference. Maybe you can, maybe you cannot, but one thing I think is abundantly clear – these two were so in love, so good-looking, and really fun to be aroundt. Thanks Caitlin and Dustin!!!

Fall Family mini sessions

Hooray! I am finally bloggingsome family shots from back in October 2011. I had an idea to do some family mini sessions, and was excited my friend Tracy was on board. The sessions booked up very fast, the weather was unbelievable gorgeous, and we had a great time! Here are some of the “best of” from the families I shot that day. Tracy, who is far better at blogging than me (can you say award winning blog?) blogged her families back in the fall. Can’t wait to do this again!! I had a blast. It was definitely invigorating and I have to thank ALL the families who came out for the sessions! It was definitely hard to narrow it down to a few to post.

Sarah and Ian’s Amazing Vancouver Island Wedding!

This wedding capped my wedding season in the best way possible. What a fantastic wedding! These two are so in love… and they have the CUTEST little daughter Jessica… wow, so perfect! The most difficult part of this wedding was trying to limit the number of pictures to put in this post. Be warned there are many. But this wedding was full of amazingness. Including my amazing second shooter for the day, Deanna McCollum!

I can’t handle all the cuteness! Jessica was a flower girl during the ceremony (one of three little cuties). Hence the cutie pie dress!

Hot tamale bride and hot tamale bridesmaids to boot!

One of my FAVOURITE moments of the wedding. This was Ian’s face as he saw his daughter come down the aisle as a flower girl. Ian is so genuine. He lives in the moment. You could see the love on his face and in his eyes. He welled up a little bit more when he saw Sarah come down the aisle. It was difficult for me to hold it together too. But great to be a part of!

If you have not already fallen in love with this couple, take a look at this. Another favourite of mine. I love this shot because every face in this photo is full of joy! I feel like the luckiest person in the world to get such awesome clients!

Sarah and Ian had their wedding at the Brentwood Bay College School. Definitely a new venue for me, but a really beautiful place.

Oh thank you beautiful late October weather! Didn’t expect you but it was sure nice of you to show up!

Sarah and Ian had such a west coast style wedding, including water bottles as favours, plants in recycled tin cans, saplings as favours, and a tree theme throughout! Every table was named after a tree you can find locally.

And their first dance was to “Your Song” by Elton John. This couple is so cool!

And last but not least… you see, Ian is a rock star. For real. He and his band (that included some groomsmen and the MC) got on their kick ass stage they had at the reception and played a set of songs. They were soooo good! In fact, Ian even recorded two songs before the wedding that were played during the ceremony. This party was outstanding. Ian’s band was phenomenal, and so was the other band they hired for the night.

I hope to blog their photobooth soon… also too good! Thank you SO much Sarah and Ian! I had a blast with both of you! Much love!

Nicole and Reuven’s Victoria Wedding

Oh, I loved this wedding! Nicole and Reuven were so lovely. There was so much emotion on this day, it was hard not to cry myself! There was the love of the couple and the love of their friends and family… and the hand of fate was also on their side! After a rainy start to the day, the clouds parted just in time for the photo session. The leaves were so alive with colour. It was October 22 and what a most perfect wedding day it was. And I believe things turned out so well because it was so genuine. Thank you so very much Nicole and Reuven for letting me be a part of your gorgeous day!

I was told by a friend about the amazing new Victoria Bridal Boutique – so I had to check it out! After all who doesn’t love a store full of beautiful gowns? Well, I was amazed at what I saw. Yes, there were the beautiful gowns and gorgeous accessories, but the space itself was stunning! The gowns are laid out so they are easy to see, the dressing rooms are spacious and well appointed, and there is comfortable seating for the friends and family you bring with you. This is a must visit for brides! Sherrie, the owner, is committed to making every bride feel beautiful and find their right dress that fits within their budget. Ladies, she cares. Check them out for sure! Here is a little Q&A I had with Sherrie from Victoria Bridal Boutique. I’ll include some pictures I took of the boutique.

How did you get started?

It is not something I had ever thought of doing. I went to University to get my Bachelor of Education to teach children. I love children and I love to educate. The funny thing is that I have always loved looking at wedding gowns but never put two and two together. After going through a few weddings with friends and family I found that the customer service was lacking as well the ability to aid those with lower budgets. I decided at that point I wanted to learn more about the bridal industry for my own interests as well as finding ways to help friends traverse this very specific market.

What sets Victoria Bridal Boutique apart from others?

At Victoria Bridal Boutique we strive to give each bride one on one attention. We ask brides to book appointments for this very reasons. We do accept walk ins but only if our staff are not currently working with another bride. We have also kept our change room capability down to three . This means that there can only be a maximum of 3 brides on the floor at a time. This allows for each bride and her guests to enjoy their time in a less crowded setting. We also keep our main salon less cluttered by only having a few sample gowns on the floor and keeping the majority in the back. With our one on one appointments, our brides tell us the styles they are interested in as well as their budget. Our staff know our stock and can quickly find what the bride is looking for in the price ranges she has specified.

What is your favorite thing about your business?

My favorite thing is getting to see the smiles and tears on our brides when they find their perfect gown.

Do you have any advice or tips for brides planning their wedding?

Brides should start looking for their gown 8-10 months before their wedding. They do not have to physically enter a store but they need to have some ideas of what styles they would like to try. They do not have to purchase them this early but they need to check with the shop the shipping times since each manufacturer is different. Once a bride has bought her gown they need to stop looking. Do not over think it, when it feel right, it is the one.

What are the new trends you are seeing in bridal gown design?

The trend for the last few years has been sleek and sophisticated silhouettes. In the last 6 months we have been seeing a return of the natural waist ball gowns and hemlines gradually rising. You are going to see a lot of vintage/retro looks this year with cuts Jackie O was famous for.

Is there anything you want your prospective clients to know about you or something they would be surprised to find out?

Many brides are quite surprised to hear that I also own and operate a daycare. I love children and I love fashion so I get the best of both worlds.

Outside of your business, what do you love to do?

Outside my business I love my quiet down time ie. reading books, spending time with friends, lying on a warm tropical beach somewhere. I am hoping to hit the ski sloped this year after having to pass it over for the past couple of bridal seasons. My life is so busy that I enjoy the quiet things in life.

Kathleen & Shawn – Victoria BC wedding photography

I am thrilled to be back to blogging all the awesomeness that was in the rest of my year. First up was the wedding of Kathleen and Shawn. This was such a lovely wedding and a relatively new experience for me – I only met them the day before the wedding! Turns out their original photographer had an emergency and I was lucky enough to be chosen by the couple as the new photographer! Even though it was unusual for me, it couldn’t have turned out better. They were SO sweet and ultimately, it worked very well becuase they were so in love. When I can feel that, I know we will be a good match. On top of that, Kathleen’s dad stands out as one of the kindest and most loving fathers I have seen at a wedding. The wedding party was outstandingly funny, gorgeous, and also cared about the couple so deeply. Shawn’s face when he saw Kathleen coming down the aisle was priceless. He could not stop smiling. Shawn, you are awesome. And Kathleen, are you kidding me?!?! You are so amazingly beautiful.

The lovely wedding was at Olympic View Golf Club, with amazing decor from Details Event Planning and Decor. I would like to thank Tracy Risinger for second shooting with me that day!

This has become an annual tradition that I hope continues forever. I LOVE this family. We didn’t have too long this day, but the light was awesome and so was the family. I am so happy with these images. It’s so neat to get to be part of a family from the engagement shoot, wedding, Huxley’s first birthday to his second. Thanks Emily and Mike and Huxley. I enjoy being your friend, as well as the lucky person who gets to take pictures of you.

Devlin & Kyle – victoria bc wedding photography

You know what is fun? This day was fun. And here’s why. Devlin and Kyle got married. They looked awesome. GORGEOUS! We started at the Sea Cider Farm and Ciderhouse. Beautiful. Weather – perfect. Second shooter – the creative and talented Tracy Risinger (who for the record is also great company). Married by the sea in a small Sidney waterfront park. Then off to one of my favourite settings – a field of gold. And then lots of other pretty places. It was a great great day. Congratulations you two! I was honoured to be part of your day.

Nicole and Reuven – engagement in Victoria, BC

Nicole and Reuven are such a great couple. We had a great evening in Beacon Hill Park for their engagement session. The weather could not have been more beautiful, and they were even willing to dip their feet in the Pacific! Which was COLD, as we all experienced. But all in the name of love and in the name of FUN! With these beautiful faces and smiles, can you blame me for being excited for the big day? YAY!
